Yellowtail flounder
Yellowtail flounder are a flatfish that represent one of the only species to collapse and recover on the Newfoundland Grand Banks in the 1990s
Our lab has done a variety of work to understand yellowtail flounder population dynamics on the Newfoundland Grand Banks. Given that yellowtail flounder are one of the few species on the Grand Banks that has recovered following a collapse in the 1990s, they represent an interesting case study to compare to species that have yet to recover. Our research has identified that although the population declined in the 1990s, it may have been less severely impacted by the coldest temperatures than other species.
