The FESA lab recently had two papers published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. The first paper, led by FESA lab lead Matthew Robertson identified identified that starvation mortality likely contributed the collapse and lack of recovery for the American plaice population on the Newfoundland Grand Banks. The second paper, led by DFO collaborator, Daniel Duplisea, further developed a concept called the Ghosts of Overfishing past where overfished populations may carry a memory of decline, even when their population size has recovered.
